May 20 Chromatography Forum Meeting

On Tuesday, May 20, the Chromatography Forum of the Delaware Valley will feature Dr. Fred Rabel, Ph.D.

Dr. Rabel will speak on “Analysis of Herbals/Medicinals – How Authentic Are Your Supplements?”

As members of The Chromatography Forum of the Delaware Valley and as fans of Dr. Rabel’s work, we highly recommend everyone interested in chromatography attend this event.

Ned Dugan featured in TLC Forum

Analtech’s Technical Director, Ned Dugan, is featured in aNed Dugan, Technical Director recently posted Technology Forum on Thin Layer Chromatography on LCGC’s Chromatography Online.

Here’s an excerpt:

What advantages does TLC have over other methods for pharmaceutical analysis?

Dugan: In some ways, TLC can offer obvious advantages to other methods for analysis. Usually TLC is simpler, faster, more environmentally friendly, and significantly less expensive than other forms of analysis. Minimal sample preparation is required and solvent consumption is comparatively low. In addition, TLC is a very simple and forgiving method of analysis. If a mistake is made, very little time or resources are wasted.

In other ways, TLC can be the perfect compliment to other methods of analysis. Besides the fact that TLC is used as an inexpensive pilot method for establishing separation protocols, there are many hyphenated chromatography techniques that involve TLC.

Nominations sought for the Dal Nogare Award in Chromatography

The Stephen Dal Nogare award is one of the oldest and most prestigious awards given in chromatography. Since 1972, it has been presented by the Chromatography Forum of the Delaware Valley – usually at PITTCON.

The award was established in memory of Dr. Stephen Dal Nogare – a DuPont Company chemist who made several contributions to chromatographic science.

The Chromatography Forum of the Delaware Valley has begun seeking nominations for the 2011 Dal Nogare Award. The award is given each year to an individual who is an example of an outstanding scientist in the field of chromatography. The awardee is selected on the basis of their contributions to the fundamental understanding of the chromatographic process.

Nominations, including one hard copy and one electronic copy, should include current resume and publication examples as well as any seconding letters. These should be submitted by 15 January 2010 to:
